In a surprising collaboration that defies usual forecasts, Ubisoft has unveiled an virtual crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, offering complimentary bonus story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Disclosed

According to the formal announcement, "An unusual confrontation pulls heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh quest, where hints of prohibited rituals and monstrous changes echo through the darkness." The storyline presents a "strangely attired woman named Ada" who tasks the characters with traveling into the Gemstone Grotto—a important location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her ally from a hidden group.

The questline concentrates on "bizarre trials and a terrifying adversary" and is open to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Places and Changes

The trailer features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was previously where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser ends with a powerful sequence showing a character, presumably the hostage, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Extra Content

Players who successfully complete the quest will receive an exclusive katana in addition to numerous items concealed throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also includes in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-based costume for Yasuke
• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Special weapons
• Survey Corps mount

Latest Free Story Content

This patch also introduces the game's latest free story episode, titled "A Puzzlement." This playful quest partners Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature techniques: Naoe introduces a dramatic interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-lethal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "A Puzzlement" also includes a fresh environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.

This marks not the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime series. The series formerly featured a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla informally featured a quest that clearly referenced the popular series One-Punch Man.
